Forum Rewards Summary

By Chris Tremblay on 9/17/2010 Category: Forum>Forum Rules

(updated 3/30/2012) - Due to abuse we have stopped the click referral part of the program. However, we have kept the rest of the program in tact.

How to Earn Rewards

Rewards are earned by posting decks and responding to threads or leaving feedback on decks in our deck database. The rewards are as follows:

  1. Posting a Deck

The first deck that is posted in every 7 day period by each member will earn that member 5 points. All other deck submissions earn 0 points.

  2. Forum Submissions and Deck Comments

Each post earns 1 point if it contains at least 25 characters. However, bonuses can be earned as follows:

    1. First Post Bonus: The first post you make each 24-hour period will result in an additional 3 points if the post is 100 characters or more for a total of 4 points.

    2. Medium Post Bonus: Posts containing more than 200 characters will receive an additional 1 point for a total of 2 points.

    3. Large Post Bonus: Posts containing more than 500 characters will receive an additional 2 points for a total of 3 points.

Forum Rule Violations and Reward Program Abuse

Moderators have the ability to remove points from a user for any post that violates the forum rules, or when a user is suspected of abuse of the Point Reward System. In extreme cases where a user is warned a moderator has the ability to ban a user from the Reward program completely.

MTGFanatic.com reserves the right to collect payment by any means necessary for merchandise purchased through misuse of the forum rewards program. Means of collections can include, but is not limited to:

  1. Charging the credit card on file with us.
  2. Billing the individual by paypal or mail.
  3. Removing existing store credit with our company.
  4. Deducting payment from sales made to our business.

We take this very seriously, as abuse of this program is essentially theft since we are providing our members with free credit for merchandise on our website. If you do not agree to these terms, you can choose to not participate in the program by either not cashing inyour points, or by contacting a customer service representative and we will remove your account from this program.

Contests

Moderators will have the ability to run contests and to reward any number of points to users as a type of prize for the contest winner(s). The contests will need to be approved by Myself. A simple email containing the contest rules and reward summary will need to be submitted to our customer service department. Once the email is read and approved by myself the contest can begin.

Flagging Posts

Each user is able to flag a post so it can be reviewed by a moderator. Once the post is approved by a moderator, it will be unable to be flagged again to prevent moderators from reviewing the same post many times. While a post is being reviewed it will not be visible. If a post is not approved by a moderator, then the points awarded for the post will be removed from the user and the post will be deleted.

Rewards

The points can be redeemed for the following rewards. The rewards come in the form of a gift certificate that is applied to your account and is listed during the checkout process as a link you can click on to apply the discount to your order.

  1. 300 points: $5.00 gift certificate
  2. 575 points: $10.00 gift certificate
  3. 1400 points: $25.00 gift certificate
  4. 2700 points: $50.00 gift certificate
  5. 5000 points: $100.00 gift certificate

Points can be redeemed here.

Goals

I am hoping that these rewards will help grow the size of our community to bring in new active members, and to help current members to remain active. Due to the reward and punishment system in place I hope to decrease the number of "Trolls" on the site, and increase the volume of quality posts on the site.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Where can I see how many points I have?

You can see your points in several places: by clicking on the account menu, when you view your profile, the forum stats to the left of your post when you post in the forum, and in the Account Drop down menu.

It should be noted that non-forum rewards contests can still be held independently.

As for the rest, it all sounds good. If any problems show up, I'll be sure to let you know.

This sounds like an excellent idea. Thank you for your effort. I'll be sure to post help for new members consistently as a result. Also, well done on the fine tuning of points - the values seem perfect.

question: If I reach 5000 points, and then get another 575, will I have $110 or still just $100?

You redeem the points, meaning you purchase the rewards. The rewards listed above are the available rewards and the point requirement is the cost. So when you purchase any of the rewards, your points are reduced by the cost and you have to rebuild your points to purchase another reward.

I love this site. I was Ebaying all my card orders so you can immagine how much mail I was getting. Your prices are fair and always satisfactory on recieval. It's nice to have one source to get everything. What realy drew me in was the deck builder you have. I like being able to see draw statistics and all. I absolutely love this site and I'm meeting alot of extremely talented players with very diverse strategies. It's definately boosting my gameplay and opening up new strategies. I only have a handfull of MTG players back home in my redneck, close-minded town...but rest assured I will do what I can to get them here and in the community. Thanks for all your efforts and I greatly appreciate the business end of it as well. When I get home from the boat, I'll have many deck submissions and those packages I ordered. I can hardly wait. My enemies will tremble before me....lol!

Looks good, Chris.

One thing I thought of: does moderating a post count towards forum rewards? I never really noticed if it upped my post count and I figured it didn't because it was more of a post edit, but it seems fair that moderating posts should count for mods. The number of points per moderation is up to you, but I'd say that I moderate about 3-4 posts a day and getting X amount of points for each would be great.

I suppose it would also be a bit more of an incentive for your mods to keep their eyes peeled in the forum, too. emoticon

I think a way to gift points to other players would be cool.

Chris: OMG i think Parax that Parax made a great point, let me give him my 704 points.
Parax: Wow Chris thats nice of you.

Kind of like a Kudos thing. I know person a might never use their points so they just gift all their points to person b. But eh, it was still earned right? To abuse someone from creating a second account and spamming then gifting, maybe just allow a set amount to be gifted to a certain person, per day. That way if there is high gifting traffic a Moderator will be alerted and can review the suspectable profile.

My points seem to fluctuate quite frequently, lol. I'm curious how I got to 11 points...and now I'm down to 3.

hmm... I am not sure, you should actually be at 31... I will have to see what in the world is going on... I'll get the points corrected as soon as I determine the root of the problem. Thanks for letting me know.

I found the problem. When you updated your profile it reset the points to 0. Obviously, that was not supposed to happen... I am launching the update in a few minutes and I will get your points updated emoticon

This reward system makes me want to look at every deck the site has and leave some feedback on them as to what i think.
I am now playing on MTGO. Would love it if some of you would friend me on there and help me playtest. just add me as a friend and we will get started.

Jeskai Control 5 is my newest deck and would love input on making it stronger vrs control matchup.

This is great incentive to keep me shopping MTGFan! I read something about punishment in the OP? Not that I plan on causing any mischief, but could you clarify? I'm sure obvious trolling counts as well as harassment, swearing, and attempting to abuse the reward system. Am I missing anything? Thanks again for your team's excellent work and dedication to MTG and CCG in general!
