Well it seems that the rules thread pulled a vanishing act on us, so in its honor: Rules question thread 2.0 Ask away

Alright, nearly 2 pages of questions on progenetius in the rules thread has spurred me to post this. I ask grimmer and everyone else not to answer any more questions about protection from everything.

Here are the 4 things you need to know about protection from everything.

1) Progenetius cannot be targeted by spells or abilities. That means if the spell says TARGET creature or permenant it can't choose progenetius. If it never mentions target creature or permenant your golden (re: wrath of god kills him)

2) Progenetius is unblockable. Period.

3) All damage to progenetius is prevented. If you pyroclasm for example, you do not pass go, you do not collect 200 dollars and you do not deal 2 points of damage to progenetius.

4) Progeneius cannot be equipped or enchanted. If you have some way to move an enchantment or equipment to progenetius without targeting him you can but it will fall off as a state based effect. An enchanment would go to the yard and an equipment would just sit there and laugh at you for being an idiot.

Thats it, unless you have a specific question about the way protection from everything interacts in unique situations STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM.

For the love of god, someone sticky this, if I see one more question about protection from everything Im going to off myself. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

Targets are chosen before costs are paid, so anything that sacrifices as part of it's activated ability cost (such as Conjurer's Bauble) to target something in the graveyard will not be able to target itself. It isn't in the graveyard yet when targets are announced. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

I'm a level 1. I could probably be a level 2 by now if 1) I knew the penalty guidelines better and 2) I spent more time judging instead of playing. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

Not a judge, but my play group always turns to me for rulings, so I make it a point to get everything right to keep things fair :)

Yeah thanks for all the answers guys its appreciated. Few more if you could please.

With Doubling season out does it make creatures like frogling plaxcaster come in with double the +1/+1 counters on it? If im just moving the counters around with spike weaver, forgotten ancient or graft does the single counter moved turn into two because of doubling season?

And with creatures like nantuko husk do i just need to sac one creature to pump up all of them in play or one for each? You get what you give, especially with me. Trolls beware i will return equal rates i see you trolling other people with. If you fix the troll rate you gave, list persons name on my deck and i will fix yours as well.

For Doubling Season, the Frogling will come in with twice as many counters on it. However, moving counters via graft/forgotten ancient. However, the Spikes have a different ability. It removes a counter as part of the cost for the ability, and then puts a counter onto something as the effect. Since this is a new counter, it will be doubled.

For cards like Nantuko Husk, the sacrifice is part of the ability, so it would only apply to that specific card. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28

Yes.

>>>If im just moving the counters around with spike weaver, forgotten ancient or graft does the single counter moved turn into two because of doubling season?

Yes, because those are being put on something via an effect.

When a card refers to itself by name, it is only referring to itself and not all copies of the card. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

Grimmer, I'm pretty sure you're wrong on Doubling Season, in regards to Forgotten Ancient and Graft. The counters are being moved, and are not actually being placed on the card. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28

Moving it removes it from one object and puts it on the new object. From the comp rules...

Move
To move a counter means to take it from where it currently is and put it onto another object. If the object the counter would move from has no counters, or either that object or any possible objects the counter would move onto are no longer in the correct zone when the effect would move the counter, nothing happens.

So, moving it puts it on the new object as part of an effect, so Doubling Season will double the counters. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

Okay, I just remembered it differently, I guess. I never read the Comp rules/much else for rulings, so I can get a bit rusty on stuff like that. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28

Vigor reads:
If damage would be dealt to a creature you control other than Vigor, prevent that damage. Put a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each 1 damage prevented this way.

So with 2 vigors in play, do they effect each other, as they are both called vigor and it clearly states other than vigor.

Im pretty sure they will put counters on each other, but i need to clarify it

Two Vigors will prevent damage to each other. If a card refers to itself by name, it should be read as "this" because it refers to itself only, not all objects with that name. So, each Vigor essentially has the ability:

"If damage would be dealt to a creature you control other than ~this~, prevent that damage. Put a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each 1 damage prevented this way."

They will prevent damage to each other and give each other counters. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

MadsGud when a card uses it's name it means only that particular instance of that name. Fortune favors the prepared mind

correct, youll gain 6 life. whenever you play a spell that deals damage you add up the total damage it dealt and that would be the amount of life you gain with Tamanoa. "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising everytime we fall." -Confucious ~ One of your MTGFanatic Mods!

No. A creature with protection from a color can not be damaged by that color. That creature can also not be enchanted/equiped, targeted, or blocked (by a creature) of that color. My magic blog: http://theundergroundsea.blogspot.com/

Alright, my friend has a kraken's eye in play and then he plays a clone, and clones a white creature. Does he get the life for "playing a blue spell" or is it technically not ever a blue spell? "All warfare is based on deception." - Sun Tsu

Clone is still blue until it starts to resolve (and chooses the creature), and the trigger from Kraken's Eye activates as soon as the spell is announced. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28
