Well it seems that the rules thread pulled a vanishing act on us, so in its honor: Rules question thread 2.0 Ask away

Alright, nearly 2 pages of questions on progenetius in the rules thread has spurred me to post this. I ask grimmer and everyone else not to answer any more questions about protection from everything.

Here are the 4 things you need to know about protection from everything.

1) Progenetius cannot be targeted by spells or abilities. That means if the spell says TARGET creature or permenant it can't choose progenetius. If it never mentions target creature or permenant your golden (re: wrath of god kills him)

2) Progenetius is unblockable. Period.

3) All damage to progenetius is prevented. If you pyroclasm for example, you do not pass go, you do not collect 200 dollars and you do not deal 2 points of damage to progenetius.

4) Progeneius cannot be equipped or enchanted. If you have some way to move an enchantment or equipment to progenetius without targeting him you can but it will fall off as a state based effect. An enchanment would go to the yard and an equipment would just sit there and laugh at you for being an idiot.

Thats it, unless you have a specific question about the way protection from everything interacts in unique situations STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM.

For the love of god, someone sticky this, if I see one more question about protection from everything Im going to off myself. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

Really, Lifelink stacks??
So if I were to put a Warhammer on say a Knight of the Meadowgrain, I would gain 10 life? 5 for the Knight's lifelink and 5 from the Warhammer's? Comment on my decks and the favor will be returned in due time. Only positive and constructive comments will be acknowledged.

Lifelink stacks, most abilities do. The ones that dont, are the ones that are either there or not, such as flying, trample, first strike etc. If an effect is meaningful if it stacks then it does so. Fortune favors the prepared mind

yes most things stack such as lifelink. so you can have three seperate instances of life link. you can also have stacking flanking. trample doesnt stack, niether does flying or wither.

ok here is my question, when conflux comes out what is legal in standard? comment on the deck "New Bant" and i will return the favor Iron Chef Mtg Competitor, come stop by the thread and see what is cooking on the site, lots of fun to be had!----------------------------------------------------- The angle of the dangle decreases with the sag of the bag, and increases in proportion to the heat of the meat compared to the mass of the ass and the beauty of the cutie.

Nothing is rotating out since Conflux is part of the Alara block, so it is the Core Set (10th) the current block (Shards and Conflux) and the previous block (Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, Eventide) Fortune favors the prepared mind

I Have a question regarding whitemane lion, during your opponents attack phase,he attacks with a 2/2 creature. Can i play whitemane and assign it as a blocker and target itself to return in hand? would that block/kill/the attacker?

---

how about momentary blink? does it apply to the same principle? if i cast momentary blink on my blocking creature. does it survive and would the attacking creature be considered blocked?

Whitemane Lion makes you return a creature as it comes into play. While you could flash him in, you would have to have the ability resolve returning a card to your hand before you moved to the declare blockers step (stack has to be empty and priority passed by both). So Whitemane would be gone before it it could be declared.

Momentary blink would work, but you would have to time it right. You would need to have the creature in play block, assign the damage, and then with damage on the stack, blink the blocking creature. When the creature came back in to play it would be a "new" creature.

Damage does not require the creature to still be in play after it is assigned for it to resolve properly. The damage exists independent of the the source dealing it. Fortune favors the prepared mind

I have a question regarding flinging creatures. Let's say I have a SKIZZIK (5/3 haste and trample) and a BLOODSHOT CYCLOPS (4/4 tap and sacrifice a creature, cyclops deals damage equal sacrificed creature's power to target creature or player)My opponent attacks me with two 4/4 creatures. Could i block one of the 4/4 creatures with my SKIZZIK and then tap the cyclops and sacrifice the SKIZZIK to deal 5 damage to the other one, killing both? Rate and comment on my decks. Some of them aren't completely terrible. I will return the favor. . . Have a JEVIL DAY!!!

Yes you can. However, you would have to let damage go on the stack first. This means that you will kill your opponent's other 4/4, but it would still deal 4 damage to you. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28

Thanks.... would it still work like that if i used the FLING spell from stronghold instead of the creature ability? Also, can my opponent disenchant my nevinyrral's disk in response to me paying 1 colerless and tapping it to use it's ability? Rate and comment on my decks. Some of them aren't completely terrible. Yes, that is pretty much the same with Fling.
He could Disenchant it, but it wouldn't prevent it from destroying all that stuff, since its ability is already on the stack. Moo.

thanks for the answers. I had assumed that the fling spell was different this whole time. So you're saying that any activated or triggered ability will always happen no matter what an opponent does in response right? This being said, the bloodshot cyclops could tap to fling a creature even if an opponent unsummoned him in response. Also I want to say that this question/answer thing is THE JAM son!!! I love this website.... i have lots of questions so you'll be seeing lots of me. Rate and comment on my decks. Some of them aren't completely terrible. I will return the favor. . . In this case, the creature could not be unsummoned, since the tap and the sacrifice of the creature occur as part of the cost of the ability, so the creature is removed from play before it can be "unsummoned". Fortune favors the prepared mind

ok ok ok... I'm almost salivating having all these old ass questions answered but here's another one. Aven cloudchaser must destroy a target enchantment in play when comin into play. Unless a card like this says, "you may" then you may not cast the creature without an enchantment to destroy correct? In the same sense one could not use SUFFOCATING BLAST to counter a spell without having a creature to deal 3 damage to. Also what about a jilt? If i paid the kicker cost to also deal 2 damage to a second creature and someone makes the creature taking the 2 damage go away before hand, may i still bounce the original target to it's controller's hand? Rate and comment on my decks. Some of them aren't completely terrible. I will return the favor. . . Have a JEVIL DAY!!!

For Suffocating Blast: Correct, you need two legal targets when you add it to the stack.

For Jilt, you've already casted it with the kicker cost, and the target is legal during announcing. If there is any one legal targets left for the spell to successfully resolve, then it will still resolve. The only way it doesn't, in this case for Jilt, is if _both_ targets become illegal (either by going to the graveyard, removed from game, or returned to hand). So yes, you still get to bounce the original target.

thanks but still unsure of things like aven cloudchasers but I'm pretty sure it follows the same rules as the SUFFOCATING BLAST in which you must destroy an enchantment as part of the creature's cost Rate and comment on my decks. Cards like Aven Cloudchaser can come into play if there are no enchantments in play when it is cast. The card reads "When _____ comes into play, do ____." You are required to do that action; in this case, it is destroying an enchantment. However since this ability can only trigger after the creature is already in play, the creature may still be played. The ability, however, will still be countered upon resolution since there are no legal targets for it. MTG Lvl 1 Judge and one of your MTGFanatic Moderators! Birds of Paradise Count: 28
