Well it seems that the rules thread pulled a vanishing act on us, so in its honor: Rules question thread 2.0 Ask away

Alright, nearly 2 pages of questions on progenetius in the rules thread has spurred me to post this. I ask grimmer and everyone else not to answer any more questions about protection from everything.

Here are the 4 things you need to know about protection from everything.

1) Progenetius cannot be targeted by spells or abilities. That means if the spell says TARGET creature or permenant it can't choose progenetius. If it never mentions target creature or permenant your golden (re: wrath of god kills him)

2) Progenetius is unblockable. Period.

3) All damage to progenetius is prevented. If you pyroclasm for example, you do not pass go, you do not collect 200 dollars and you do not deal 2 points of damage to progenetius.

4) Progeneius cannot be equipped or enchanted. If you have some way to move an enchantment or equipment to progenetius without targeting him you can but it will fall off as a state based effect. An enchanment would go to the yard and an equipment would just sit there and laugh at you for being an idiot.

Thats it, unless you have a specific question about the way protection from everything interacts in unique situations STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM.

For the love of god, someone sticky this, if I see one more question about protection from everything Im going to off myself. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

like weirdsteve said in the guild thread yes since they say target creature/permanent target meaning any creature or permanent in play which includes your own. "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising everytime we fall." -Confucious ~ One of your MTGFanatic Mods!

No. Reroute changes the target of activated abilities. Activated abilities are printed as "cost : effect" while instants/sorceries are spells.

Reroute
Change the target of target activated ability with a single target.
Draw a card.

1: As long as they only have one of the target modes chosen, yes.
2: Yep, that is legal.
3: Yes, its ability doesn't target(hint: you can see this by the absence of the word "target")
4: While a spell is on the stack, players can respond to it, for example a counter spell, that targets the spell. When the counterspell resolves(it will do before the spell being countered) it will remove the spell(sometimes ability) from the stack, and the card will go into the graveyard. Moo.

No, this is not legal. A spell may not target itself.

However, because the Swerve is still on the stack when you are choosing the new target for the Cancel, you may choose the Swerve as the target. (It is removed from the stack as the last step of it resolving.) Then, the Cancel will be countered upon resolution due to having an illegal target. I killed your cat! (Why?) Yes, since Shroud only prevents targeting(and the Exalted mechanic doesn't target, seen by the lack of the word "target" in the wording of exalted)

wierdsteve: With these spells, you have to pay the same amount for each X. Reason is that you get half as many angels as you can put X mana into.
Moo.

Can you tap an equipment to neutralize it's effect ?

For instance, you play a coma veil on an equipment that is on an creature that attacked. Next time when the creature attacks the equipment will already be tapped so does it still affect the creature ??

Thank you

We are a gang of guys who play magic regulary, well we argue over rules more than play really, but thats all part of the fun.
One card still holds the prize for most discussion; lignify.
Does lignify also cancel out all enchantments on the lignified creature, say random 2/2 creature with unholy strength on. Does the creature become a 0/4 because of lignify, or does it still receive bonus from the unholy strength, so the creature is 2/5 instead.

Thanks

Equipment doesn't tap with the creature that is attacking. Only the creature taps when it attacks. Regardless, as stated, if the equipment was tapped somehow, it would not make it stop working.

>>>Does lignify also cancel out all enchantments on the lignified creature, say random 2/2 creature with unholy strength on. Does the creature become a 0/4 because of lignify, or does it still receive bonus from the unholy strength, so the creature is 2/5 instead.

Unholy Strength applies in layer 6d and Lignify applies in layer 6b, so the creature would be 2/5. Here are the layer rules:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

418.5a The values of an object's characteristics are determined by starting with the actual object, then applying continuous effects in a series of layers in the following order: (1) copy effects (see rule 503, "Copying Objects"); (2) control-changing effects; (3) text-changing effects; (4) type-changing effects (which includes effects that change an object's card type, subtype, and/or supertype); (5) all other continuous effects, except those that change power and/or toughness; and (6) power- and/or toughness-changing effects.
Inside each layer from 1 through 5, apply effects from characteristic-defining abilities first, then all other effects in timestamp order. Inside layer 6, apply effects in a series of sublayers in the following order: (6a) effects from characteristic-defining abilities; (6b) all other effects not specifically applied in 6c, 6d, or 6e; (6c) changes from counters; (6d) effects from static abilities that modify power and/or toughness but don't set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value; and (6e) effects that switch a creature's power and toughness. Within each sublayer, apply effects in timestamp order. Note that dependency may alter the order in which effects are applied within a layer or sublayer. See also the rules for timestamp order and dependency (rules 418.5b-418.5g).
Example: Crusade is an enchantment that reads "White creatures get +1/+1." Crusade and a 2/2 black creature are in play. If an effect then turns the creature white (layer 5), it gets +1/+1 from Crusade (layer 6d), becoming 3/3. If the creature's color is later changed to red (layer 5), Crusade's effect stops applying to it, and it will return to being a 2/2.
Example: Gray Ogre, a 2/2 creature, is in play. An effect puts a +1/+1 counter on it (layer 6c), making it 3/3. An effect that says "Target creature gets +4/+4 until end of turn" is applied to it (layer 6b), making it 7/7. An enchantment that says "Creatures you control get +0/+2" enters play (layer 6d), making it a 7/9. An effect that says "Target creature becomes 0/1 until end of turn" is applied to it (layer 6b), making it a 1/4 (0/1, plus +1/+1 from the counter, plus +0/+2 from the enchantment).

You have performed an illegal action and the game rewinds to just before you performed the illegal action. Part of the cost of using the Lotus Petal is to sacrifice it. Sacrificing it means to put it into the graveyard from play, so it is no longer there for you to try and bounce.

Lotus Petal
Tap, Sacrifice Lotus Petal: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!
