Well it seems that the rules thread pulled a vanishing act on us, so in its honor: Rules question thread 2.0 Ask away

Alright, nearly 2 pages of questions on progenetius in the rules thread has spurred me to post this. I ask grimmer and everyone else not to answer any more questions about protection from everything.

Here are the 4 things you need to know about protection from everything.

1) Progenetius cannot be targeted by spells or abilities. That means if the spell says TARGET creature or permenant it can't choose progenetius. If it never mentions target creature or permenant your golden (re: wrath of god kills him)

2) Progenetius is unblockable. Period.

3) All damage to progenetius is prevented. If you pyroclasm for example, you do not pass go, you do not collect 200 dollars and you do not deal 2 points of damage to progenetius.

4) Progeneius cannot be equipped or enchanted. If you have some way to move an enchantment or equipment to progenetius without targeting him you can but it will fall off as a state based effect. An enchanment would go to the yard and an equipment would just sit there and laugh at you for being an idiot.

Thats it, unless you have a specific question about the way protection from everything interacts in unique situations STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM.

For the love of god, someone sticky this, if I see one more question about protection from everything Im going to off myself. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

Additionally, the ability comes from a different source, so even if it was considered played you would still be able to do it. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

if I use dragon herald's ability and sacrifice sprouting thinrax, does that count as all three color creatures I need to sacrifice?

No, the Heralds are worded in a way that you have to sacrifice 3 individual creatures. Which makes them suck. Moo.

so what is legal in standard..is it just 10th edition, lorwyn, eventide, morningtide, shadowmoor, and shards?

and what do you think is the best place to find lifelink cards or something good to put into a lifelink deck as far as booster packs go in standard? "Step by step we try controlling our fate. Once we finally start living, it's become to late. Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octa-vari-ummmmmmmm!"

>>>so what is legal in standard..is it just 10th edition, lorwyn, eventide, morningtide, shadowmoor, and shards?

Correct

>>>and what do you think is the best place to find lifelink cards or something good to put into a lifelink deck as far as booster packs go in standard?

Eventide would probably be the best due to # cards that provide lifelink and relatively small # of cards in the set.

Eventide:
Voracious Hatchling (U)
Scourge of the Nobilis (C)
Nip Gwyllion (C)
Divinity of Pride (R)

That being said, the lifelink creatures are much stronger in Lorwyn and Shards, though they will likely be harder to get via packs...

Lorwyn:
Knight of Meadowgrain (U)
Changeling Hero (U)
Brion Stoutarm (R)

Shards of Alara:
Battlegrace Angel (R)
Rhox War Monk (U)
Windwright Mage (C) I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

so what is this about lorwyn getting phased out of standard? "Step by step we try controlling our fate. Once we finally start living, it's become to late. Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octa-vari-ummmmmmmm!"

Standard consists of the most 3 recent Blocks, along with the most recent core set. When the set after Shards of Alara Block is first released, Lorwyn Block(Thats also Morningtide) rotates out Moo.

Did they change it? It used to be the two most recent blocks and the most recent edition (core set). I thought they said Lorwyn-Morningtide and Shadowmoor-Eventide were two blocks for limited but for the purposes of rotation they were considered one big block.

Also, are they returning to the 3 set block format or sticking with the "2 sub-block" block format? I killed your cat! (Why?) I felt it would bring closure to our relationship!

Shards is three sets to the block. Shards, Conflux, and Alara Reborn (aka rock, paper, and scissors if I'm not mistaken). Lorwyn and Shadowmoor are individual blocks but for the means of easy thinking during rotation in standard, they are considered one big happy family. When the set after the Alara block is released, the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block rotates out. So by the end of the year, standard should look something like this:

Shards of Alara
Conflux
Alara Reborn
11th Edition
[The annual "October Large" set] ~Latest deck project: Memories of Blood. Any help would be appreciated.~ "Misery loves company. Idiocy loves attention."

No grimmer, they didnt change it, EIIE is just describing it wierd. Its the two most recent blocks + the most recent core set.

Planes walker: You're only really choosing from one block right now anyway. The only difference is that we will have 1 less set in standard. As it is now, this is the end of the largest standard card pool ever (Its started shrinking with the rotation of tsp block and coldsnap) Everything is finally going back to normal. Comment on my Mono B rogues and my G/B combo decks please ;D

The next two expansion sets (Conflux and Alara Reborn) will be added to Standard.

First, 11th Edition will push 10th Edition out of Standard.

Then whatever set comes *after* 11th Edition will push Lorywn-Shadowmoor out of Standard.

I hate that they do that..then you have a bunch of cards you can't use anymore in tourny's and you are stuck fixing your decks...or abandoning them all together "Step by step we try controlling our fate. Once we finally start living, it's become to late. Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octavarium! Trapped inside this Octa-vari-ummmmmmmm!"

Once your deck rotates out of Standard, you can still use it in
Extended play. Legacy is great too as it basically envolves every set.
Or, you can sculpt your deck so it fits into a specific block:
